Little Girl Gets More Than She Bargained for From Leopard at the Zoo

When you take your kid to the zoo, you hope that the animals will be active and visible (not sleeping behind a rock or in a tree, as is sometimes the case). One thing you generally don't expect, however, is for your child to interact with any of the wild animals, unless you're visiting a petting zoo with friendly creatures like sheep and goats. Of course, animals are ultimately unpredictable, and you never know what could happen!

In a video posted on July 11, a little girl and her twin brother are at the zoo, checking out the leopard exhibit. They're both wearing leopard print clothes, so it seems like a safe bet that this was one of the animals they were probably most looking forward to seeing on their visit...and the leopard in question definitely doesn't disappoint!

"She was absolutely unfazed. Said it was her favorite part of the day!" wrote @boehmetwins . Whoa! The girl might have taken her wildlife encounter in stride, but that moment probably gave mom quite a scare. Thank goodness for thick glass!

This just might go down in history as that kid's favorite trip to the zoo ever. And while your chances of experiencing something similar the next time you take your child to the zoo might be slim, there are still things you can do to make sure your little one has a great time!

How to Prepare for a Trip to the Zoo With Little Kids

Kids of all ages can enjoy a trip to the zoo, but don't linger too long if your child is on the younger side.

"Even though the fun and learning quotients are high, it’s still best to keep your zoo trip to about two hours, which is the max that munchkins can manage without getting tired or cranky," according to What to Expect.

It's also best to try and schedule your trip for when the crowds aren't so big (like on a weekday).

To get them amped up for your day at the zoo, talk about the animals who live there ahead of time.

"Look at books highlighting the creatures that live at the zoo (pop-ups or books that make sounds are particularly fun with this subject matter). Watch a tot-friendly video about animals, and of course, sing songs about animals and the noises they make."

If your kid will be walking at the zoo, make sure their shoes are sturdy and comfortable — or consider bringing a stroller.

"Even the hardiest walker can get tuckered out by all the terrain you’ll cover walking around the zoo."

With any luck, your little one will get to observe some truly fascinating creatures up close and personal...just not too up close and personal!
