Former L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa jumps in governor’s race for 2026
Former Los Angeles Mayor is aiming to become the next governor of California. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s eight-year term will end in early 2027, sparking a competitive race for his successor. “California is the state where anything is possible with hard work and determination,” Villaraigosa said. “But our future depends...
VINTAGE LA: Drive down Sunset Strip in 1983
Sunset Strip in 1983 starting at Holloway heading west past Tower Records. I could totally be inside, but don’t see my mom’s car two toned Chevy Caprice. Although I DO see painted adds for Duran Duran’s RIO and Lionel Ritchie debut solo album. Thriller is on the lower half of the Marquee sign. As we keep driving you’ll also notice a poster for The Shining on the side of the @thewhiskyagogo. Nice to see Gazarri’s and all that signage for KMET and Gil Turners. Just wish it kept rolling past Hamburger Hamlet.
DEAR WEHO: You say your artificial grass is safe, but let’s get real
When I came to the City Council meeting last week, I had a very nice conversation with Helen Collins, who assured me that the specific brand of artificial grass that’s being planned for Hart park is completely safe and is free of PFAs. However, the very first point of the fact sheet on artificial turf published by The Climate Reality Project is “All artificial turf contains hazardous (PFAS) chemicals.”
How social justice dictates spending in WeHo
Two years ago, West Hollywood’s Social Justice Task Force made sweeping recommendations to City Council on how to promote equity and address systemic racism in city government — and the Human Services Division has been hard at work implementing their directives. The division presented a report of their...
OpEd: Why bullet voting is probably a bad idea
What is bullet voting? A bullet vote is when you cast one vote for a favorite candidate even when you have the ability to cast two or even three votes in any given election. Bullet voting works best in small voter pools. In West Hollywood ‘the bullet vote’ was used often in years past when Weho had its elections in March. But after elections moved to the November ballot the effiects of bullet voting is diluted by a much larger voter pool.
Hallman ends term as chair of Public Safety Commission
Tod Hallman ended his term as chairman of the Public Safety Commission in West Hollywood on Monday night, as he and his colleagues chose Adam Eramian as their new leader. “I just would like to say, uh, this has been an interesting journey for me,” Hallman said. “I didn’t seek out to be on the Public Safety Commission. Then newly elected Councilmember John Erickson asked me to apply; he appointed me. I never wanted to be chair. I just wanted to be the best commissioner that I could be. It’s come around twice. The first time I abstained because I was terrified. I hadn’t been a commissioner very long and I didn’t feel that I was qualified enough to do the position. The second time when it did come up, I begrudgingly said all right. And so here we are Two years later. And I had to serve for two terms because I’m on a commission where coincidentally everyone just abandoned ship at the same time, so it was a newly appointed commission. So by our bylaws, you have to be a commissioner for six months. So here I am. I hope I did a great job. ”
Sutton Stracke launches new fashion line with RHOBH castmates

West Hollywood City Council candidate has received an endorsement from Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna. “Community livability and public safety are the reasons I am running for West Hollywood City Council,” Nickle said. “I am honored and proud to be endorsed by Los Angeles County Sheriff Luna.”
STEVE MARTIN: You’re safe because the mayor says so
We have nothing to fear but fear itself. While Mayor Erickson did not exactly say that in his comments about public safety at the last Council meeting, he probably wished he would have. The Mayor made it clear that he personally believes the City is essentially safe, but he is willing to spend more on law enforcement as a placebo to make people feel better. But it was apparent from his paranoid statements, he believes any discussion of crime that rebounds negatively on him is mere “fear mongering.”
Roxy, Rainbow seeking Mills Act Contract
WeHo’s Historic Preservation Commission is tasked with providing a recommendation to City Council on the request for a Mills Act Contract for the cultural resources located at 9009-9015 Sunset Boulevard, known as The Roxy Theatre and Rainbow Bar & Grill. City Council has determined that historic structures representing the...
WEST SEEGMILLER: Building bridges in a torn city
Last week, I attended a strategic planning meeting in West Hollywood. Residents and local leaders reviewed a recent public input campaign. As the founder of a non-partisan medical freedom coalition, I was surprised to be invited given my independent status often makes me a divisive figure among the local intelligentsia.

‘Beanie’ Block 2007-2024
Beanie Iowa Moore Block lived a full furbaby life. Beanie was born on December 10, 2007, in the state of Iowa and moved to West Hollywood in March 2008. The purebred Italian Greyhound was black and white with Irish markings. Irish markings are indicated by a white contrast on a dog’s paws, underbelly, or tail. As a puppy, Beanie would always climb to the highest point she could find. She would sit on the top ledge of a chair or climb up to rest on your shoulders. Unlike many Italian Greyhounds, she never got the shakes. She was a confident, courageous, loving soul. I’d often ask her, “Who is in there?” for Beanie was the gift that just kept on giving.
