STURGIS, Ky. (WEHT)- In Sturgis, the city council continues to make the effort to take steps forward, following the city’s financial issues that came to light last year.

As they rebuild, the city’s mayor addresses the residents, and the misinformation, he says is being spread online.

Despite what Mayor Billy Adams calls “misstatements” spreading online, he says the city is doing the best they can. At the latest council meeting, he wanted to address some of those rumors,
“I refuse to personally get on social media to discuss it. I feel like this is just the best way to do it, to put it out in a broad statement to the citizens of Sturgis to address some of these issues”.

In a multiple page letter to the city’s residents, Mayor Adams hopes to set the record straight.
He says, “There have been statements made that we are possibly benefitting from the things we’re doing, and we’re not. There have been some misstatements about utility bills…”.

The mayor says if residents want the full truth, his door is always open and he is more than happy to discuss any issues.

Some residents told Eyewitness News off camera that they disagreed with parts of the letter.
Union County Sheriff Jason Thomas paid a visit to the council meeting as well, sharing his initiative to add school zones to Sturgis.

He says they want to encourage kids to walk or ride their bikes to school, and in doing that, school zones need to be established.

The council agreed to discuss and move forward with the idea.
The sheriff says he hopes this can be established by next school year.
