Barge submerged in Union County

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A barge is submerged in the Ohio River in Union County, and officials with U.S. Coast Guard MSU Paducah told us more about it.

Officials say they received notice of the sunken barge Sunday morning, and it was a “bulk” barge at the front of a line of barges.

U.S. Coast Guard MSU Paducah says the vessel departed the channel and struck “a known object” then partially sank. No injuries were reported.

The Coast Guard notes it has been in contact with the barge owners since this happened. The barge owners are also in charge of running the salvage operation, when they will coordinate with the Coast Guard.

A barge is submerged in the Ohio River in Union County.

The barge is located near the Caseyville Boat Ramp. It’s not known how long the craft has been there. Local resident Dara Owen says she was at the scene Sunday and saw a person surveying the site.
