EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – They say the best things in life come in pairs: a pair of socks; peanut butter and jelly; but what about twins?

More specifically, the Layne Twins at North High School. The pair of record breaking siblings are continuing to defy the odds. And as impressive as their level of talent is, their personality is just as striking.

The laughs are fruitful between the twins, but through it all, they still want to see each other succeed.

“I was getting all the shine, he just finally came out of his shell,” said De’Janay Layne. “I would try to get him to stick to it when were in eighth grade, he didn’t want to. Seventh grade, he didn’t want to. Then we came here.”

“It was because I was young, I had hoop dreams,” explains De’Amontey Layne.

“He wanted to be a hooper, and that’s not even his thing.”

Last week, De’Amontey raced on the winning 4×100 and 4×400 teams in the SIAC championship. His twin sister set two new meet and school records in the 200 and the 4×100 races. And to top it all off, both are achieving new heights as sophomores in high school.

North Assistant Coaches Noah McBride and Chris Clark spoke highly of how much the two have achieved since coming to the school.

“We’re kind of just getting started on this journey,” said McBride. “I feel like, in two years, they came a long way. Just as athletes and the people they are. They got a lot of goals, and it’s just been a blessing to be able to help them reach some of the ones they’ve set up so far.”

“There’s nothing that I can say that I put in them or that McBride put in them,” said Clark. “They were just born to be special.”

“It’s hard to take a guess on what they’re going to do,” said McBride. “When the lights come on, they’re two of the best athletes I’ve ever seen.

De’Janay currently has the second best 200 meter in the state, while De’Amontey sits just outisde the top 20. But one thing is fore sure, the “twin duo” will continue to dominate the track and field scene for years to come.
