HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Hopkins County Emergency Management Director Nick Bailey says the county’s damage from a tornado and straight-line winds was mostly confined to rural areas.

Bailey says while there is much damage across the county, especially in Charleston, no incorporated area was hit hard.

He said they do not know how many homes are damaged at this time and assessments are underway.

He also said crews wrapped up search and rescue efforts around 4 a.m. so home damage assessments can begin.

He added the Dawson Springs Police Department is assisting with assessments using a drone for ariel views and KU Energy is on scene working on power restorations.

we also need to know why the city didn't set the sirens off till about 5 minutes before it hit after knowing for over 20 that it was coming right for the county.

Yes Dawson was hit but so was Ilsley, Barnsley, and Morton's Gap. Some of Nortonville. Every place needs the prayers and help not just Dawson.
