HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – An Oakland City man who was found guilty of multiple sexual offenses last week is now dead following an officer involved shooting in southern Illinois.

According to a release, Deputies with the United States Marshals Services and an officer with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources attempted to serve a warrant on Tuesday to Floyd Caudill, 40, who was tracked to the Lake Glendale Campground in Golconda. Officers say they made verbal contact with Caudill, but he refused to come out of his tent.

A release says a shot was fired from within the tent, and a deputy marshal returned fire. Caudill was found dead inside the tent. Illinois State Police are investigating the incident.

Court records show Caudill failed to appear in Warrick County court on July 30. The next day, a jury found Caudill guilty of two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, child molestation and battery. A warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to appear.
