OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — In Owensboro, authorities carry out a second day of a large scale warrant operation. Owensboro police, along with the Drug Enforcement Agency and IRS, carry out several more raids following a standoff Tuesday.

Officers have confirmed the suspect in that standoff has died after being taken to the hospital.
Owensboro police say 46-year old Timothy Roberts died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On Tuesday, Officers were trying to serve a warrant in the area of Farmview Drive and Southtown Boulevard, when they say Roberts barricaded himself inside a camper in the driveway of an apartment. Law enforcement says negotiators had an open dialogue for hours with Roberts before the standoff ended.

The news comes as federal agents and OPD have been involved in three drug raids within the span of 24 hours.

Owensboro residents have flooded social media with sightings of streets being overrun with police cars and federal agents.

“During that time, he appeared that he was going to give up. We came to the door. We maintained a good dialogue with him throughout this time. Unfortunately, the incident concluded when he was taken to the hospital,” says OPD.

The next day, two other raids occurred near Fifth Street and Twintree Court.

Officials say Fifth Street and and Twintree Court’s is connected to Tuesday’s 5-hour standoff.

Owensboro public schools say police recommended they issue a temporary lockout for Cravens Elementary. Officials say no one was allowed in or out of the building for around half and hour while the investigation unfolded less than a mile away. OPS says classroom operations continued as normal, and they communicated with parents.

Meanwhile, Residents on Twintree Court over a dozen Owensboro Police cars and DEA agents lined the cul-de-sac, just before 11 a.m..

One person shared he was mistakenly held at gunpoint, as officers tried to carry out their search warrant.

The owners of the home that was raided say law enforcement bust down the door before a man was arrested, and a female was issued several citations for drug possession and drug paraphernalia.

As more raids unfold, local and federal officials are refraining from sharing any additional info about why all of this is happening.
