HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A driver going the wrong way on I-69 at one point almost hitting a Gibson County deputy has been charged with several offenses.

The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office states dispatch received a call on Thursday at 9:53 p.m. about a Chevy Silverado traveling north that struck a guardrail and continued without stopping.

Officials state dispatch received another call that the same vehicle was now traveling southbound in the northbound lane. A deputy located the truck after it almost hit him head on near the 31-mile marker.

Officials say a felony traffic stop was conducted, and 26-year-old Miguel Velasco of Cincinnati was placed into custody.

Deputies state there was strong odor of alcohol, and at the conclusion of a roadside investigation, Velasco was taken to the Gibson County Jail where he was booked on Criminal Recklessness with a Vehicle, Reckless Driving, OWI-Refusal and Operator Never Licensed charges.
