HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Women’s rights in the United States have made massive leaps and bounds since the passing of the 19th Amendment. Yet, many still struggle to break through because of ongoing unequal treatment in society, and the workplace is more evidence.

Despite major progress, women are underrepresented in leadership positions and other areas with 28% as legislators and 9% of S&P 500 CEOs despite women making up more than 50% of the population.

A study conducted by WalletHub on women’s equality found that in the Tri-State, Indiana ranks as one of the worst in the country, all the way at 10th worst (41st overall). Kentucky and Illinois were around the mid-pack mark at 21st and 19th, respectively.

    • Indiana – 41st
      • Workplace Environment Rank – 40th
      • Education & Health Rank – 22nd
      • Political Empowerment Rank – 38th
    • Kentucky – 21st
      • Workplace Environment Rank – 16thth
      • Education & Health Rank – 3rd
      • Political Empowerment Rank – 44th
    • Illinois – 19th
      • Workplace Environment Rank – 29th
      • Education & Health Rank – 30nd
      • Political Empowerment Rank – 12th

To reach these results, WalletHub’s study compared all 50 states across 17 key indicators of gender equality from the gap between female and male executives to the disparity in unemployment rates for women and men.
