Evansville woman to be sentenced in child neglect death

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- An Evansville mom who was convicted in the death of her two-week old child is set to be sentenced today.

Taylor Smith was convicted of neglect of a dependent resulting in death, as well as possession of meth and other drug related charges. Prosecutors say that Smith reported the child was unresponsive in June of 2022 after she went to sleep with the infant.

Smith had previously been ordered not to be around the child by DCS due to a prior investigation. Smith’s sentencing is set this morning for 10:00.
