MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) – A Madisonville man was arrested over the weekend for calling over a dozen times in just two days, with no emergency.

Ahmed Mustafa was arrested for harassing dispatch communications, a misdemeanor offense.

Mustafa called dispatch 17 times over the course of two days. Police say he became more aggressive towards dispatchers who answered his multiple calls.

Major Jason McKnight, with the Madisonville Police Department, says Mustafa made statements on the calls claiming he was going to “wipe them all out.”

“We take those threats very seriously,” says Major McKnight. “We really wanted to make sure we got this person identified.”

Police say each time Mustafa called he would use a blocked number and would not give dispatch any identifying information.

Officials say Mustafa eventually called the main 911 emergency line. They say that called helped give police information a location and connected him to the harassing calls.

“When you do that that many times, you’re taking valuable time with the dispatchers,” says Major McKnight. “They could be answering other calls or possibly you know someone else is trying to call in and then talk to us about something seriously.”

McKnight says Mustafa was arrested at the Stop-N-Go just blocks away from the police department. Officials say they still do not know the reason for his calls.

“Mental illness is a very serious thing that could have played a part in this, says Major McKnight. “I do not know for sure if that’s what it is or some kind of narcotic may have been this as well or both so at this point, I don’t really know his reasoning or motive.”

Mustafa has since been released from jail on an OC bond, which means he did not have to pay a fine, but must go to his court date later this month.
