Counterfeit bills given at ATM in Providence

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- An Owensboro bank is apologizing after over a dozen customers received counterfeit bills from an ATM.

Independence Bank says that 14 people walked away with fake money after using its ATM in Providence, Kentucky. A spokesperson for the bank says that once they were made aware of the issue, they closed the ATM and contacted the vendor that manages it.

Eyewitness News is told that Independence Bank is contacting the individuals affected and are in the process of replacing the fake money with real money.
