HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A DUI crash leads to drug trafficking charges in Daviess County.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office states on Thursday, at about 7:40 p.m., dispatch received a report of a single vehicle accident with possible injuries at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Boteler Road near Knottsville.

Patrol deputies state they saw a male, Stanley Glenn Canary, 64, of Utica, was outside the vehicle, asking people for a ride away from the scene.

Canary says he was traveling on Boteler Road and thought he was coming up to a curve in the roadway instead of a T-intersection with a stop sign. He further says he went straight through the stop sign, across the ditch, hitting the pond dam.

Deputies say while talking with Canary, they determined he may have been under the influence of controlled substances and performed sobriety tests.

He was taken into custody, and officials say in the floorboard of Canary’s truck, a 2001 Dodge Ram, was evidence of trafficking in methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia. Officials also say Canary had two active warrants against him.

He was assessed for potential injuries before being booked into the Daviess County Detention Center.

Canary is facing multiple charges including Operating a Motor Vehicle Under Influence of Substances, Trafficking Controlled Substances and Operating Vehicle with Expired Operator’s License.
