HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The father of a young girl who passed away after collapsing during recess on her first day of school at Cairo Elementary has revealed more information about what happened, as well as an update on money raised to support the family.

In a post on Facebook , Ryan Nash said approximately $50,000 was either given or raised by people from as far away as Ireland to help support the family. In his post, Ryan expressed gratitude towards the community of people who came together to help through love, prayer or financial assistance.

“We hope it won’t all go toward our expenses, so we can find a way to return some of the good to our community and the groups that showed Lucy so much love,” Ryan wrote.

Ryan also revealed that Lucy had an abnormal SCN5A gene, which can cause issues with cardiac rhythm. He said no one was aware of the condition until it was too late.

He also revealed information provided to him by the Indiana Donor Network.

“They were able to tell us her kidneys have made it possible for two women to live and heal and thrive for their families. Lucy’s liver is giving another little girl a chance to keep growing and experience all the things she won’t get to know.”

Lucy Nash was a fourth grader at Cairo Elementary School.
