The video above explains how to safely surrender a newborn in a Safe Haven Baby Box.

WOODBURN, Ind. (WANE) – A healthy newborn has been surrendered at the first Safe Haven Baby Box, the organization announced Monday.

Woodburn was the first town in the state to offer mothers the option to safely and anonymously surrender newborns to prevent abandonment. The Allen County town is now home to the organization’s headquarters.

According to a release from Safe Haven Baby Boxes, the most recent surrender marks the first time a baby has been placed at the original location: the Woodburn Fire Department.

There are now more than 260 locations across the country where babies can safely be placed. The most recent surrender marks the 52nd across all Safe Haven Baby Boxes since 2017, according to the release.

We are proud of this mother for her selfless act of love towards her baby. We’ve had the privilege of getting to know our adoptive families and man is it special to see a tragic situation redeemed. These families prayed endlessly for the opportunity to adopt an infant and these babies have been that answered prayer. They are thriving, they are loved immensely, and they are the reason why we work so hard to end infant abandonment. We know there is a way, to walk along side these women in crisis and offer them hope.
