    Mayor Terry requests $1.2 million in Opioid Settlement Funds

    HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- Evansville Mayor, Stephanie Terry requests that over $1 million be given to organizations helping to fight the opioid epidemic in Evansville.

    The request was made during Monday’s City Council Meeting. If the request is approved, 6 organization would receive funding. The funds are part of a $54 billion settlement reached in 2021 with opioid manufacturers, distributers and retailers. Indiana learned that it would receive $507 million of those funds over an 18 year period. The funds Mayor Terry is requesting City Council to approve includes the remaining funds from the city’s allocation in 2023, as well as nearly all of its allocation for 2024.

    The 6 organizations that would receive the funds if approved are:

    • YWCA Evansville: Say YES! To Sobriety and Self-Sufficiency- $200,000
    • Evansville Rescue Mission: Recovery Program of the Evansville Rescue Mission- $150,000
    • Vanderburgh County Mental Health Court- $96,000
    • Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office: Recovery Community Organization- $250,000
    • Evansville Police Department: Tackling the Opioid Epidemic- $275,826
    • The Women’s Hospital: Perinatal Support Consult Program- $231,080

    The programs were recommended to they Mayor by a committee formed in April and 22 applications were reviews before narrowing down the selections.
