HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) – Governor Andy Beshear visited the nearly complete Christian County High School where he announced over $9 million in grant funds to benefit the county as well as the construction of athletic fields at the new school.

“Today’s announcements are reaffirming what we’ve been saying since I took office: We’re investing in all our people,” says Governor Beshear. “We’re making sure that progress and prosperity reach every Kentuckian, no matter their ZIP code or address.”

Christian County Judge/Executive Jerry Gilliam says, “Today, we celebrate education and growth in our community. By developing a legacy through education, we ensure that every student has access to a positive learning environment, fostering both academic excellence and personal growth.”

The Christian County School District received $7 million for the construction of athletic fields at the district’s new high school.

Pennyrile Allied Community Services received a $400,000 Federal Transit Administration award to construct a new administrative and maintenance facility in Hopkinsville to enhance public transit in the region.

Pennyrile Rural Electric Cooperative received $1.2 million to connect 270 homes and businesses to Christian County to high-speed internet for the first time.

$38,250 was given to Christian County for cybersecurity funding from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security to help the county modernize technology and develop strategies to address cybersecurity risks and threats.

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library received $480,000 to increase handicap accessibility and meet ADA requirements at the library. This would include removing architectural barriers, renovating the first and second floor restrooms and installing a larger elevator.

The new funding comes after $10 million was presented in state budget funding to support the new Christian County High School in 2021.

So Christian County got MORE money for this consolidated school that people didn’t want in the first place!I saw something saying that the walls just built were cracked by the blasting going on…What!!!!!?????What a waste of money!!They took the name Christian county and the city kids mascot Tigers for the new school.I remember when the Todd County mascot (Rebel military man) was removed from the gym floor in 1995 after the Michael Westerman murder…. That was a huge deal and we was robbed of the mascot Todd County had for years. I know we would have a problem being robbed of our name..

That's not nice... no matter their zip code or address. Is Christian County classified less than by Andy? I don't dislike him but I definitely dislike that comment!
