HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A man who authorities say recruited homeless people in Evansville to fraudulently cash checks is now behind bars in Vanderburgh County.

According to an affidavit, Jacorey Bryant, 34, of Decatur, Georgia, was directed by Joseph Terrell toward addresses where mail could be stolen. Bryant and another man, Kendravis Arnold , would then reportedly steal checks and return them to Terrell. Police say Terrell would then print the counterfeit checks and mail them to a target city, where Bryant and Arnold would recruit homeless men to cash the fraudulent checks in exchange for a portion of the money.

Police say they were able to connect Bryant to at least four fraudulent incidents in Evansville, including an incident that lead to the arrest of Michael Wickliffe in February. Arresting documents say police found photos of stolen checks from September of 2022 to May of 2023 that totaled $547,349.80.

Bryant was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on September 12 on four counts of forgery and four counts of fraud. He is being held without bond.
