HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Teaching can be a rewarding career, but with the profession paying among the least and other factors, many teachers find themselves overworked and underpaid.

WalletHub conducted a study to find where all 50 states rank from the best to the least on teacher-friendliness and found that two states in the Tri-State rank in the top ten: Illinois and Indiana.

According to WalletHub’s data, Illinois ranked sixth best with Indiana ranking tenth best.

Kentucky ranked around mid-pack at 21st overall.

To get to a total score, WalletHub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across 24 key indicators of teacher-friendliness from teachers’ income growth to pupil-teacher ratio to public-school spending per student.

    • Illinois – 6th
      • Opportunity & Completion – 7th
      • Academic & Work Environment – 17th
    • Indiana – 10th
      • Opportunity & Completion -14th
      • Academic & Work Environment – 11th
    • Kentucky – 21st
      • Opportunity & Completion – 25th
      • Academic & Work Environment – 22nd

WalletHub also found as a whole, teachers earn 5% less than they did ten years ago when adjusted for inflation.
