HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Warrick County Sheriff provides an update on the suspicious packages found in Newburgh and how hand warmers caused a bomb threat scare in the community.

Sheriff Mike Wilder tells us this case is no longer being handed over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation as the packages “did not contain any hazardous materials.”

It is said the packages contained hand warmers and the face of a radio.

Sheriff Wilder says the packages looked like they had been tampered with and believes someone attempted to open and steal them, which allegedly caused the wires from the radio to stick out and appear “suspicious” to the reporter.

He goes on to say the X-ray device used on the scene “did not alleviate the problem.”

Sheriff Wilder tells us the device detected the powders from the hand warmer, which made the package appear to be dangerous.

No threat has been reported to the public at this time.
