HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — A 15-year-old girl has been arrested after Evansville police say she falsely reported an attempted kidnapping.

Tuesday, a juvenile reported to an Evansville Police Department School Resource Officer that a man approached her and told her she was pretty. She stated the older man then began grabbing her by her arms. She went on to say she pulled away and was able to run from the man after she sprayed him with pepper spray.

Officials with the Evansville Police Department say due to the severity of the allegation an extensive investigation began. During the investigation, detectives were able to obtain surveillance video that contradicted the girl’s statements.

During an interview with the girl on Thursday, she admitted that she lied about the attempted abduction. She went on to say she made the story up because she was dared by a friend.

The juvenile was charged with false informing and has been placed in a secured juvenile detention facility.
