HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The Evansville Police Department share tips to avoid being the victim of a scam as they observe a current law enforcement scam affecting people in the city.

In a post on Facebook, EPD warns locals of a current phone call scam where a scammer will pose as law enforcement requesting money or gift card information for bail.

EPD says no law enforcement agency will request money to prevent an arrest. They say the phone numbers scammers use are usually clones.

Here are a few tips EPD shares to avoid falling victim to a phone scam:

    • Before sending money, talk to a trusted individual
    • If money has already been sent, contact the company used to send the money and ask the company to reverse the transaction if possible
