EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — $26,000 is going to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry in Evansville thanks to donors, area Catholic schools and area Knights of Columbus councils.

It’s part of the Friday Knights Hunger Bowl campaign where Knights of Columbus brothers recently collected donations at the Mater Dei and Memorial high school football game.

The food pantry is able to serve about 2,900 people with the money raised.

Families are able to go home with about four days of groceries, and all the food is available free of charge to the clients.

“We purchase a lot of food, and this money really helps us to keep all of our food items well supplied that we can get four days of food to people who need it,” says Sister Donna Herr from the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

For those who need help — people can stop by the food pantry on North Lafayette Avenue. It’s open Tuesday through Friday. It runs from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
