INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WEHT) — Indiana state lawmakers say the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has not paid the minimum amount required to support its retirement plan for 4 out of the last 5 years.

Sheriff Noah Robinson and the Vanderburgh County Council say they have a plan to remedy the pension delinquency and no benefits will be cut.

The sheriff says the issue stems from a miscommunication between the pension board and the county council. He says deputies have been paying the legal maximum amount into the plan, but the previous pension board did not request enough funding from the county.

Sheriff Robinson and County Council President Jill Ann Hahn testified before the “Interim Committee on Pension Management Oversight” at the statehouse about the situation.

The Sheriff and County Council say they are working towards a solution to fix the issue and prevent future problems.
