HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Some residents at a Henderson assisted living facility say they feel misled after staff decide to close it.

The facility’s executive director says she and her staff will be working to relocate the people to other places to meet their needs.

She says everyone should be happy once the moves are complete.

Colonial Assisted Living sits on a quiet road on Stadium Drive in Henderson.

The owners of The Homeplace of Henderson on Green River Road just bought the property along with the second Colonial facility on Adams Lane.

By November, the Colonial building on Stadium will close, and we’re told a moving company will help the 23 residents here move out.

Some will go to the facilities on Green River and Adams.

Back on September 16, residents were notified to vacate in 60 days.

“We just decided that it would be nice to have them under one roof and be able to meet their needs and those that needed more help to get them in the proper place for care,” The Homeplace of Henderson Executive Director Jessica Beaven says.

Beaven says the decision comes as more and more people want to stay in the “basic health model” facilities with additional services like nurse aides.

Colonial is a “social” model where some of the additional services aren’t available, but Beaven says they’ll be ready to move people into the health models when the time comes.

“Nobody in this industry will ever tell you that having to move their loved one when they’re at the age of which they are is difficult, but there’s a lot of people in this community who are excited about the move,” Beaven says.

A viewer sent us a letter claiming “the residents were, at the very least, by the Beavens.”

That’s because residents were reportedly told “everything was staying the same.”

On closer inspection, Beaven says wear and tear over a couple decades and new state regulations led to the decision to close Colonial on Stadium.

Though calling it a tough decision, she believes most residents are looking forward to the move.

“We know it’s in their best interest to be in a place that has the staff and has the ability to create more socialization and give them a new room,” Beaven says.

Not only are they displacing my mother from there, but the rent at Adams lane is way higher. It not about what is best for the residents, it is about the owners getting in over their head and not knowing what signed up for. They should have done there homework before they bought the facility.
