Evansville NAACP talks project 2025 at community event

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WHT) — The Evansville branch of the NAACP and city leaders are voicing concerns about a plan they say could hurt all aspects of the community.

Put together by the heritage foundation Project 2025 is a blueprint of what the foundation would like to see out of the next conservative president. It lays out groundwork for changes in  education, law enforcement and health care.

“It is a dangerous concept and it could lead people to be oppressed,” says Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson.

Robinson says he is firmly against it. He says plans include increasing incarceration and reduce funding for community based alternatives. Sheriff Robinson says it could have serious long term effects.

“The more people you lock up is a short term strategy to solving crime,” says Robinson.

“I have taken time to really read it and really look at what the proposal is and it will certainly undermine our education foundation,” says retired  EVSC Adminstrator Dr. Sheila Huff.

These leaders also say the plan repeals the affordable care act and slashes medicaid funding and aims to ban abortion nationwide. According to the foundation’s website, some of these claims are not true.

The website says the plan does not have a complete ban on abortions without exceptions would not end the affordable care act or raise prescription drug prices.
