HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Madisonville Police say a man who allegedly started a fire inside a business on Thursday admitted he had no reason to start the fire.

According to court documents, employees at a store in the 3600 block of Hanson Road called 911 at 8:17 p.m. to report a fire inside the business. The Madisonville Police Department was requested at the scene after employees said they believed the fire was intentionally set by a regular customer.

Police say employees showed video of when the fire was started. At the time of the fire, police say the only person in the area of the store before and after the fire was Todd McVay, 25, of Clay.

Authorities say McVay admitted to starting the fire by setting a t-shirt on fire on the shelf. During the interview, McVay reportedly said he had no reason for starting the fire, except that is is a “firebug”.

McVay was charged with Arson and booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
