WARRICK COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) — Hurricane Milton comes on the heels of Hurricane Helene which had some Tri-State churches and businesses already answering the call to help.

One crew is back from taking a bus packed with supplies to North Carolina.

“There was no direct route there because of I-40 being shut down, we actually had to drive all the way into Asheville and so we had to go the northern route. It added hundreds of miles to the trip,” says the man that drove the truck Rayn Leake.

Leake says it took 15 hours to drive to Asheville, North Carolina. Once there the church latched up with Georgetown Baptist Church and began unloading supplies.

“A couple came when we were unloading the stuff and basically all they needed was water — so they got 2 cases of water there and it is just kind of nice to know even a little bit helps,” says Leake.

Leake says it was back down to the basics. He says residents who weathered the storm lost everything.

“You know a lot of them never have had a need for things. But their livelihoods have been washed away literally,” says Leake
