EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — We are deep into this fall festival week, and tonight, we are learning about two booths that need some help. Both the Vanderburgh Humane Society and It Takes a Village say they need volunteers to cover the final three days of the festival.

“If you have never volunteered at the fall festival before, it is a lot of fun to do with your family and friends,” says Laurie Miller, the VHS Development and Public Relations Coordinator.

Positioned across from The Pet Food Center on West Franklin, the Vanderburgh Humane Society says it is in dire need of volunteers to keep the booth running.

“We have spots in the morning starting at 10, and we have spots in the evening starting at 6. We even have some spots in the middle of the day which is prime viewing for the parade, since it comes down here,” says Miller.

VHS says it has been a yearly struggle since 2020. After the coronavirus hit, the shelter says not as many people want to volunteer in an enclosed space. But the shelter says it is slowly getting better.

“As we get years away from that, we have been finding that things are returning to normal and we have not had as much of a struggle,” says Miller.

Down the street, It Takes a Village is also looking for volunteers to man its booth.

“We especially need volunteers tomorrow morning and especially Saturday,” says Leann Robertson, a It Takes a Village board member.

Robertson says she sees a lot of familiar faces come to the booth when she volunteers.

“We get to see all of the people that have adopted from us over the years and stop by to tell us about their dog, and it is a great time,” she says.

The Evansville FOP Lodge 73 booth sits on the other end of the festival. Known for its pulled pork parfaits, the non-profit needed help cooking. Earlier today it posted about the need for cooks on Facebook. Thankfully, the non-profit says the community stepped up to help.
