HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — An Evansville woman is facing a dozen charges, including arson, after police say she stole a man’s phone out of his truck.

According to police records, the victim of the phone was able to track the device to the 700 block of North Second Avenue.

The victim told police the suspect had red pants on and was pushing a shopping cart with multiple water jugs. Police say they were able to locate the suspect when the found the shopping cart and a pair of red pants hanging from a window nearby.

When the suspect, April Reed, opened the door, police say they saw a thick smoke and caught an odor of an electrical fire. Reed says her oven was on fire “due to pizza.”

Police say they detained Reed for the theft, and entered the apartment upon seeing the smoke.

It is said narcotics and paraphernalia was located in plain view. During a thorough search of the apartment, various narcotics, paraphernalia, scales and prescription bottles were found that did not belong to Reed. Other findings included a firearm with an altered serial number, a magazine full of ammo, multiple cell phones and a “freshly burnt chair.”

Reed was arrested and charged with the following:

    • Manufacture/Dealing Methamphetamine
    • Possession of Cocaine or Narcotic Drug
    • Altered Gun Identification

I'm confused about the arson charge. Her oven was "on fire" because she burnt a pizza, and they found a burnt chair - if it was their property how was it arson?
