HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The repairs for the Blue Bridge are taking longer than expected.

As previously reported , officials said construction crews were going to be finishing deck replacement for the Owensboro Bridge, also known as the Blue Bridge, sometime during 2024. However, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has determined repairs won’t happen until 2025.

According to the KYTC, some inspections revealed some issues that need to be remedied and addressed on the Indiana approach side of the bridge. Officials did not reveal when exactly those inspections were conducted.

The KYTC says it must coordinate schedules with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) so that all issues can be remedied at the same time. Officials note there are still issues with the Blue Bridge’s remaining deck repairs on the south side and power issues with the bridge’s lights.

We don't have to money to fix the bridge structurally, but we can waste how much money putting lights on it
