HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Family members say a 12-year-old from Henderson did her part to help Hurricane Helene survivors.

According to HCKY Helene ‘s social media post, Haynie Smith wanted to help the hurricane survivors, so she went door-to-door in her neighborhood to collect non-perishable food items. Haynie’s family says she ended up gathering 70 pounds’ worth of canned goods, wet wipes and blankets. Her family says these items “filled a small wheelbarrow.”

The organization mentions not only did Smith drop those items off, but she brought her dad and a friend to volunteer at the donation center.

HCKY Helene is a group that organized a two-week donation drive for Hurricane Helene. The group says it will be accepting donations until October 20, when it will be sending all it has collected to Tennessee.
