HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Spencer County has declared a new burn ban until further notice.

According to an emergency proclamation, the ban was declared due to widespread risk of fire hazards due to ongoing drought conditions.

Officials say the following will not be allowed during the ban:

    • Campfires and other recreational fires, unless enclosed in a fire ring of 23 inches in diameter by six inches high or bigger
    • Open burning of any kind using conventional fuel such as wood or other combustible materials with the exception of charcoal briquettes or propane grills
    • Burning of debris such as timber or vegetation
    • Use of burn barrels for any open burning at homes

Officials also say charcoal should not be removed from the grills until thoroughly extinguished.
