West Virginia city announces controlled bow hunt dates for 2024-25 season

WEIRTON, W.Va. (WTRF) — The city of Weirton has announced its controlled bow hunt dates for the 2024-25 season.

The controlled bow hunt dates are from September 7 through December 31, 2024, with the extended season coming back January 13 through January 31, 2025.

Officials say all participants must be residents of Hancock or Brooke County for the past six months.

ALL hunters planning to participate are required to attend of the pre-hunt meetings which will be held at the Millsop Community Center, Weirton Room at the following dates and times.

Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 10 a.m. only

Officials say attendance to one of the pre-hunt meetings is mandatory for all participants over the age of 18, and a $20 registration fee must be paid at the time of the meeting.

According to officials, the meetings will begin promptly at their designated times, and the doors will be closed, and no one will be admitted to enter the meeting after the start time.

Hunters must bring the following required items to the meeting for registration:

• Valid Yellow NBEF Card even if you have previously hunted in the past years.
  • If a replacement is needed, call Larry Lawson at 304-437-3303
• Photo Identification (Driver’s license or identification card)

Revised regulations governing the hunt, hunting permits, maps of the hunting areas, and other documents will be issued at the pre-hunt meetings.

A Bow Hunt Education Safety Course will be conducted on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Marland Heights Park.

The fee is $25 and you MUST pre-register by calling the DNR Office at 304-825-6787. Space is limited and anyone that does not pre-register will not be able to attend.
