There's some exciting news for all you budding astronomers - there's a full Moon coming later this month. But this full Moon is particularly special as it's a blue Supermoon. A Supermoon is when a full Moon is closest to the Earth, appearing bigger and brighter than normal - up to 15% brighter and 30% bigger than regular full Moons.

Next week’s full Moon is a rare Supermoon, also referred to as a Blue Moon, Sturgeon Moon, or Dog Moon, among other names. The term “supermoon” was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979, referring to either a new or full Moon that occurs when the Moon is within 90% of its closest approach to Earth.

The Moon will appear full for three days, from Sunday to Wednesday. A supermoon occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth during its orbit, appearing larger and brighter.
