Grant made available for crisis intervention programs in Kentucky courts

Applications are being accepted for a state grant meant to improve public safety.

Nearly two million dollars from the federal Bureau of Justice will help an initiative to create crisis intervention programs in Kentucky courts. It comes from the Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program

That includes programs to keep guns out of mental health courts, drug courts, and veterans treatment courts.

A release from Gov. Andy Beshear’s office says it’s focusing on funding court programs, behavioral health initiatives, community intervention programs and training, suicide prevention and gun safety campaigns.

Officials say that will allow mental health resources to go to those who most immediately need it.

“Crisis intervention allows us to provide necessary mental health resources to those in immediate need, and this new funding opportunity will strengthen our capabilities from each end of the state,” said Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary Keith Jackson in the release.
