U.S. Rep. Rogers, Perry County officials tout new $10.7 million water grant

A nearly $10.7 million federal dollar grant will lead to more jobs and improved water service for people in Perry County. That’s according to local leaders and Congressman Hal Rogers. Angie Hall is the grants coordinator for Perry County. She said the money will be used to build a transmission line from the proposed Buckhorn water treatment plant to the Coalfields Regional Industrial Park.

“Currently the water line running to Buckhorn is a six- and eight-inch line. This will bump it up to 14- and 16-inch lines, which will allow us to maximize the water capacity that we can get to the industrial park.”

Hall said the Economic Development Administration grant will make the industrial Park more attractive to prospective companies and improve water service to people who live in the Buckhorn community.

“In recent years, you know, we've had some water issues where their residential customers have been without water for several weeks at a time. And so, this will improve that water quality and solve some of those water issues that we've had.”

Hall said with the new grant, they’re about $7 million shy of the total project cost of $40 million and they hope to turn dirt by the end of the year.
