The Kentucky League of Women Voters is ramping up door-to-door canvassing to educate residents about voting procedures.

A $10,000 grant from the National League office will be used in Kentucky for outreach, mobilizing community partners, and volunteer training. Kentucky League of Women Voters President Jenn Jackson said the focus is on those citizens who are infrequent voters.

“And if you’ve not been a consistent voter, then you may not be aware of that there is a voter ID law now. You may not be aware that there is early voting,” said Jackson.

Jackson said there are plans for ten canvassing locations across the state culminating with a day of action event on October 26th. The League president says reaching the goal of 1000 new voters is achievable. Jackson said many volunteers are interested in getting active in communities.

“This is also an outreach to help kind of mobilize more volunteers…get people to get more skills because canvassing is not something that the League has really done before,” said Jackson.

The deadline to register for the November 5 election is October 7. The options for voting include casting a ballot on Election Day, early in-person voting, and absentee by mail. More information about voting procedures can be found at Vote411.org/LWVKY.
