Louisville Gas and Electric/Kentucky Utilities’ employees and contractors are still in Florida, six days after Hurricane Milton knocked out power to more than 3 million customers. Spokesman Daniel Lowry said they sent more than 240 workers to the sunshine state.

“We still have more than 200 folks there. They're about halfway between Tampa and Orlando is about where they're staged and where they're responding and working.”

Lowry said much of the Florida crews’ work involves the time-consuming tasks of putting utility poles back in the ground and restringing lines. He said they’ll stay until they’re not needed.

“We were asked to help. The call goes out, and then we responded. We answered the call to be able to send resources and help folks. But they've made a lot of progress.”

Lowry said Milton knocked out power to 3-point-4 million Florida customers. By mid-afternoon Monday, that number was down to about 350,000. LGE-KU is a supporter of WEKU.
