Vehicle fire under I-25 closes westbound I-270, northbound ramp from I-76

DENVER (KDVR) — Fire activity in the tunnels underneath an Interstate 25 interchange caused closures along Interstate 270 and the Interstate 76 ramp during the Tuesday evening rush hour.

All lanes of westbound I-270 approaching I-25 were closed as of 6 p.m., and I-76 to northbound I-25 was closed for the fire inside the underpass tunnel, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reported the I-25 northbound entrance ramp from I-76 and a right lane of I-25 northbound was closed in Welby.

CDOT reported a vehicle fire at milepost 57.3 on U.S. 36, which is at I-25.

Fire crews were on the scene, but traffic backups were growing near the incident.

No further information on the cause of the fires was immediately available on Tuesday night.
