Illinois football left off prestigious award watchlist for first time since 2021
The Maxwell Award watchlist was released on Monday, and the Illinois football team is nowhere to be found. Heading into the 2024 campaign, the Illini are poised to have a bounce-back season. We finished 5-7 in 2023 after having an eight-win campaign the year before. It is time to get back on the bowl bandwagon and at least achieve the six-win mark.

Hundreds of customers without power following severe storms in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Hundreds of customers are without power Tuesday morning following severe storms in Springfield. City Water Light and Power crews are responding to a number of power outages with over 400 customers across nine circuits impacted, mostly on the north end of Springfield. That number was as of 10:40 a.m. The number of outages is dropping as crews work to restore power. Over 4,000 were initially without power early Tuesday.

The Little League Senior Softball World Series started on Monday in Roxana, Delaware. The Illinois squad took their first step to defending their championship from last year with a 10-1 win over the West squad from Hawaii. Illinois blasted four home runs in the game, two by Aspen Kitwoski from Springfield. Standout pitcher and 2-time first team all-stater Mia Volpert, also from Springfield, launched a home run and was perfect in the pitching circle in her four innings of work, striking out five batters. Hallie Gibson of Carlinville pitched the final three innings, giving up two hits and an earned run with three strikeouts.
