WORK HARD, PLAY HARD… [HN PHOTOS]
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN PHOTO NOTES] – A number of lovely Hyannis families took to an asphalt cancha de fútbol in the parking lot of the Hyannis Youth and Community Center early last evening. The young jugadores took advantage of the cooler temps, for a little fun and exercise at the end of a long workday. They were playing a type of fútbol called Fútbol sala (or Futsal), with reglas diferentes, played on a hard surface, with a smaller pelota. The asphalt, boards, and netting create quicker action with lots of contact. To me, it was like taking traditional fútbol and sprinkling it with a dash of old-school ice hockey, making things more “rough and tumble,” more interesting, with the boards and netting just about always keeping the pelota in play. Wives and girlfriends cheered from the sidelines, encouraging the intensity, while the youngsters set up cones nearby to make their own futsal court. Everyone was having a wonderful time without drugs and booze. These people work hard and play hard. It’s refreshing to see. Above HN photo: Barnstable Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that happened on Rte. 28 in Centerville last evening. The momentum of the crash sent both vehicles, a pickup truck and a sedan, careening off the roadway, and down an embankment before striking and damaging a parked vehicle. The occupants were not badly injured. The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene with photographs… Above HN photos: A man was arrested for drug possession early this morning during a traffic stop. The stop was for motor vehicle offenses, but upon further investigation, officers reportedly found drug paraphernalia and “a rock.” P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by Leon Redbone… [CLICK IT/CRANK IT! Even the dogs wouldn’t go peacefully last evening! [hn photos]
Above HN photos: A little white dog wasn’t playing when officers tried to take him into custody early this morning. The male driver had just been arrested for OUI, and the female passenger had just been taken into protective custody, when a Massachusetts Environmental Police Officer entered the pickup truck in an effort to convince the remaining pooch to come along nicely… but the pooch started to scrap with the officer, deciding he wasn’t having any of his “come along nicely” b.s. And why would he? the driver had just refused to cooperate with field sobriety tests, according to radio transmissions, and the passenger had just finished swearing her head off at officers while violently banging against the backseat of a Yarmouth Police cruiser.
