It’s also made him angry. “As a pitcher, I would describe myself as being very intense and someone who throws with a little attitude,” the Maize South graduate said. “I like to pitch angry. For some people, if they try to pitch angry, they get too amped up and have a hard time focusing and throwing strikes. For me, when I bring some attitude and fire with me out to the mound, I feel like it unlocks a higher level of focus and makes me better. I throw with a lot of passion and I go out every time with one thing in my mind: I want to win.”

Lenexa wants to collect 1,000 pounds of used plastic bags to make into bench
The city of Lenexa is looking to get a new public bench through unconventional means — by recycling more than 1,000 pounds of plastic bags. Taking a cue from neighboring cities like Merriam, the city has launched a year-long project where it ask residents to donate plastic bags at three locations in hopes of reaching the magic number of 1,000 pounds, enough to craft a bench.
Flash sale on Dam Jam day passes now through Monday
GODDARD, Kan. (KAKE) - The Dam Jam Music Festival is having a flash sale on day passes for the two-day event in Goddard later this month. Now through Monday, general admission day passes are $104, a $40 savings off the regular price of $144. Each pass is good for July 19 or July 20.
Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium Welcomes New Baby Female Giraffe
KANSAS CITY, (greatergc.com) — There’s a new giraffe in town. Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium announced the birth of a baby female giraffe early on Sunday, June 30. The calf weighed 125 pounds and stood five feet, six inches tall upon arrival. Mom giraffe Makali, aged 12, and the baby are both doing well and bonding behind the scenes.

TULSA, Okla.—The Wichita Wind Surge technically lost twice, 5-4 and 7-0, against the Tulsa Drillers at ONEOK Field. Wichita dropped to 7-18 in one-run games in the first contest, a continued game that was suspended yesterday. They also got shut out for the fourth time this season in the following initially scheduled matchup.
Wichita hospital warns of increasing disease cases with children
Pediatricians in the Ascension Medical Group are reporting an increase in cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HMFD) and mononucleosis among children in the Wichita area. HFMD and mono are highly contagious and they are often spread through close contact, including sharing drinks, utensils and other personal items. HMFD mainly affects children under the age of 5, causing fever, sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. Mono is more common in adolescents and young adults, with the symptoms including fever, sore throat, and fatigue.
