Wellsboro Comic Con now free to attend

WELLSBORO, Pa. ( WETM ) — Event organizers announced that Wellsboro Comic Con will be free and open to the public this year.

Wellsboro Comic Con is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for its third year. Previously, this event lasted for two days, and attendees needed to purchase tickets. Now, all of the festivities are taking place in one day, and tickets aren’t required.

Wellsboro Comic Con will be spread across the Deane Center for the Performing Arts, the Warehouse Theatre, the Deane Center Lawn, and Central Avenue in Downtown Wellsboro. Visitors will be able to participate in art-related activities, attend panels and presentations, shop with more than 100 artists and vendors, and more.

People are welcome to dress up as their favorite characters for Wellsboro Comic Con. Cosplayers of all skill levels can show off their outfits during the 4:30 p.m. cosplay contest for the chance to win prizes. Participation is free, but all cosplayers interested in joining in on the fun need to register by 4 p.m. at a booth at the convention.

Pop culture fans will have the chance to meet some of their favorite artists and authors. Featured guests for this year’s convention include Stephanie Williams (“Wakanda #1,” “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,” “My Little Pony”), Adam Gorham (“Godzilla,” “Darth Vader,” “Archie,” “Rocket,” “New Mutants”), Arielle Jovellanos (“Monster High,” “Captain Marvel,” “Girl Taking Over: A Lois Lane Story,” “Adventure Time”), and Alexis Frederick-Frost (“Adventures in Cartooning,” “Maker Comics,” “Team Unihorn and Woolly”).

Although the main event is free, super fans can choose to purchase VIP tickets for $50. VIPS will have access to a VIP lounge with snacks and drinks, get a discount on Wellsboro Comic Con merch, and be invited to a VIP/guest mixer.

The day before the convention, fans can join a workshop at the Gmeiner to learn all about creating webtoons from 66 Shark Teeth. This popular creator of “City of Blank” will also be giving away limited-edition signed posters during the workshop. The workshop costs $25 to attend, but VIPs can join for free.
