WELLSBURG, W.Va. (WTRF) — If you believe in magic in a young girl’s heart, get ready to see it on stage at the Brooke Hills Playhouse.

The long-running summer theater group is ready to sing a musical version of Roald Dahl’s story ‘Matilda.’

The opening night will feature a cast of two dozen players, recounting a student’s magical powers and the tricks she plays on those who hold her back.

Featuring both children and adults, the playhouse is both a training ground for new actors and a Wellsburg tradition.

“The beauty of the playhouse is that these these little kids that are coming in and as they grow and go through high school, it is definitely a learning environment. They’re out here learning how to act, they’re out here learning how to stage manage. They’re out here learning how to set build. They see the adults doing those things and then they start taking that interest.”

Emily Hores, Director, Matilda the Musical

The curtain opens on this hand-painted set this weekend and next weekend.

The stage will become the yellow brick road later this summer for a play version of ‘The Wizard of Oz.’
