I&M continues restoring power following July 15-16 storm damage
INDIANA (WFFT) — Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is still working to restore power for customers following Monday night and Tuesday morning storms. The company revealed 27,700 customers were without power on Tuesday at 9 a.m. At 1 p.m. on Tuesday, I&M reported they had restored power to nearly 20,000 customers.

Michigan DNR seeks volunteers for U.P. State Fair experiences
What's happening: One of the biggest annual events in the Upper Peninsula is looking for a helping hand, specifically when it comes to connecting youth with The Great Outdoors. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is requesting volunteers to help with the Pocket Park at the U.P. State Fair, which runs from August 12-18 in Escanaba. Specifically, volunteers will help kids learn various outdoor skills like catch-and-release fishing, learn how to shoot pellet guns or archery, staffing the fire tower and greeting people coming to the Fair.

Beach bot helps remove plastic at Ludington’s Stearns Park Beach
LUDINGTON — BeBot, a robotic beach cleaning machine, will team up with A Few Friends for the Environment of the World (AFFEW) as they clean Stearns Park Beach in Ludington. BeBot previously worked to clean up Grand Traverse Bay with The Watershed Center. Brought to Ludington by the Annis Water Resources Institute (AWRI) at Grand Valley State University, BeBot can remove plastic and other waste materials from sandy beaches and even sift out smaller particles than traditional equipment. While no trash is good, the main focus is on plastics. It’s estimated that 20 million pounds of plastic enter the Great Lake annually, so it’s important to get it before it does.
