The town of Wendell passed its budget for next fiscal year on Tuesday night during its town board meeting.

The approved budget allocates almost $40 million–$39,321.165–toward achieving five distinct goals; downtown vibrancy, public safety, infrastructure, parks and recreation, and organization culture and communication.

The financial scope of next year’s iteration of the budget represents an almost 20% jump from this current year’s version. This year, the town is operating  on a budget of about $33.7 million. Interestingly, the 2022 budget totaled about $28.08 million.

So, in the span of two budget cycles, the fast-growing town’s operating budget has increased by 40 percent.

The budget passed in a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner Braxton Honeycutt casting the only dissenting vote.
