Children and parents in Wendell had the chance to get their own hands in the soil last week while learning more about gardening during Garden Education Day.

The event took place at the Community Garden, which is located at 601 W. Third St.

Led by community garden member Shelly Ryan, a number of visitors picked potatoes and peppers, and received insturction on the life cycle of plants, how some fruits start as flowers, and other vital pieces of knowledge on plant life.

Established in 2018, the community garden encourages collaboration, education, and healthy living among grden members and the community at large.

Anyone over the age of 15 is welcomed to join. The garden charges $15 annually to reserve a plot.

All food grown at the community garden is donated to the food pantry.
