Wendell to host 3rd annual fireworks show

Wendell’s annual fireworks show is back for its third year July 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Wendell Community Park, located at 601 W. Third Street.

Visitors can enjoy food trucks, outdoor activities, and music prior to the fireworks display, that begins at sundown.

The Wendell Board of Commissioners approved the Town’s first fireworks show in 2022, which brought thousands of visitors to downtown Wendell. Attendees had the option to watch the fireworks from the park, or at one of the locations downtown where the fireworks were still visible, such as J. Ashley Wall Town Square, Farmers & Merchants restaurant, and Bearded Bee Brewing Company. Shuttle buses run all evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. for those parking downtown wanting to visit the park after grabbing dinner or a drink on Main Street.

Wendell Mayor Virginia Gray expressed her excitement in this year’s event: “I’m very excited for us to celebrate Independence Day together as a community. This is our third annual fireworks show and are happy to organize this event for residents and visitors in Wendell for another great year.”

Wendell Community Park is accepting up to 500 spots for vehicle parking on-site. Golf cart and handicap parking are available. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and outdoor activities for families to enjoy. Town staff asks that visitors please refrain from bringing pets and personal fireworks so that the event can be safe for everyone to enjoy.
